What are Emotes??
On the Yahoo! Messenger, there is a red exclamation mark. When you click it you get a list of emotes. These emotes are preset texts that appear on the chat screen slightly differently.

Originally intended to portray emotions (the name "emotes" probably comes from mixing "emotions" and "notes"), emotes are extremely popular for posting recurring texts. There are two variations of each emote: 

a general one - aimed at the room in general and
a specific one aimed at a specific chatter in the room.

Normal chat line - Freddy: Hello Everyone!

An emote - Freddy says hello to the room (general emote) or Freddy says hello to SoulRvanderEr (specific emote)

Once you have got the hang of emoting, you will quickly realise the need and appeal for your own personal emotes. In order to make them, you can manually edit the emote_user.dat file provided by Yahoo! for the purpose or use this application to do it. Of course, this application is much easier to use then the manual editing!

Which Application?
If you want to make personalised emotes for Yahoo! Messenger, use the Messenger version, this version directly edits the Yahoo! Messenger Emote file. The Java version, allows you to store emotions in an external file, for use in any program. Read the "More Info" for details on the Java version.
